Someone much brighter than me once said patience is a virtue. Flyer fans are believing that, Eagle fans are questioning that, while Sixers fans are having a tough time Bynum-ing that! For those who say the process has already been a failure, they are being unfair. If the Eagles had lost top candidates to other fellow organizations similarly looking for new head coaches, the criticism would be on-point. That is just not the case so far this off-season.... yet!

Eight different head coaching positions have opened up since the regular season ended. Former Syracuse lead man Doug Marrone took the Buffalo Bills job. The Eagles may have had a passing interest in him. Will we rue the day he takes the Bills to their first Super Bowl championship rather than leading a parade down Broad Street? Doubtful !! Rob Chudzinski was the choice of Joe Banner and the new ownership to take over the Cleveland Browns. The battle for his services was considerably less than the competition to get Chip Kelly's services the previous week with the Birds. Oh yeah, there was that Reid guy who will be on the Kansas City sideline next year. Seller’s remorse? Don't think so!

So while the Eagles haven't really lost any top candidates to other teams, several potential choices, including top college coaches, decided that the grass was greener at their current locations. The problem may be that there really are no prominent choices to be selected from. Then again Andy Reid wasn't a prominent choice fourteen years ago. Jeff Lurie may be attempting to make history repeat itself. I am guessing the next Eagle coach will not be in town for almost a decade and a half. Eagle fans want to know, just who the heck he is going to be. Patience people!

While the Birds fans wait for their next sideline leader, hopefully they have stayed in touch with the sport they love. This weekend's divisional round playoff action was as good a foursome of games I've ever seen in the 40+ years I have been watching football. High scoring, nail-biting endings, controversial decisions, all-time record setting performances, it had absolutely everything. Three of the final four teams left standing are the same who made it to last year's championship weekend. But there will be a new champion because the Giants are the only repeat missing member of the 2012 quality quartet. It was not that long ago that the Eagles were continued visitors to pro football's final four. Nice when you are there, returning to that level is the trick. Will patience pay off for Flyers backers? The orange and black faithful ooze patience. Since we are rolling out classic old-time axioms this week, home is supposedly where the heart is. For the Sixers, home better be where the wins are too. They stopped a six game losing streak Saturday night beating the Rockets by seven at the Wells Fargo Center. Ten of their next eleven games will be in South Philly.
