View Full Version : Flyers Come Back Falls Short To Devils

The Flyers on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center play two games within one against the New Jersey Devils. The Flyers in the third period tried to come back from a very deep hole that they put themselves in but the deficit was too great to overcome in the third period.
The Flyers going into the third period the Flyers were facing a 6-0 deficit. The Flyers came right after the Devils in full force the way they should of starting this game against their divisional rival. The Flyers fell short in the third period and the New Jersey Devils held on for a 6-4 victory over the Flyers.
In the third period the Flyers outshot the Devils, 24-1 and outscored the Devils, 4-0 in the final period. The Flyers really believed that they could make a comeback.
The Philadelphia Flyers must really quickly forget this game because the Flyers head up the turnpike and take on the Eastern Conference leaders, the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in an important matchup in also the Atlantic Division game. This is a four point difference in the standings. The Rangers so far this season are 3-0 against the Flyers in head-to-head matchup.
The Devils got on the scoreboard first in the first period, three minutes, nine seconds into it they took a 1-0 lead, scoring on a 5-on-3- power play. The Devils Kurtis Foster scored after receiving a pass from Patrick Elias. The flood gates quickly opened up when the Flyers allowed four goals by the Devils in a time spand of less than three minutes from the first period into the second period. The Devils scored two goals in the final minute of the first period.
The Flyers Claude Giroux appeared to have been tripped and also slashed by former Flyer Damius Zybrus but there was no penalty called. Zybrus took the puck and passed to Ilya Kovalchak who scored for the Devils. Zybrus than scored another goal with one second left in the first period.
The Devils came out in the second period and very quickly scored in the first two minutes of the period. Zach Parise scored on a power play 38 seconds into the period. The Devils made the score 5-0 on a Alexi Ponikarovsky goal, 1:37 into the second period. The Devils went up 6-0 on a power play goal by Foster with 11:38 left in the second period and Bobrovsky was pulled from the game and Ilya Bryzgalov came in.
The Flyers came out in the third period and just totally went right after the Devils and tried so frantically to come back from such a deep hole. They out shot the Devils in the third period 24-1 and almost made a complete comeback.
Wayne Simmonds got the Flyers first goal in the period with a goal with 16:01 left in the third period. Jaromir Jagr made it 6-2 with 10:37 left. Claude Giroux made it 6-3 on a power play with 7:20 left. Voracek made it 6-4 with 6:29 left and the Wells Fargo Center was going crazy and really started to believe that they could be witnessing something special. The Flyers kept it coming and the pressure on the Devils but could not get any closer.
