The Phillies look to start a new series off against the Mets on a positive note with Cole Hamels (8-9) on the mound. The Metropolitans contestant in the pitching duel is, former Phillie, Nelson Figueroa (2-4). Hamels looks to climb back to .500 on the season and will only have five more starts left. The Mets, as per mPlant, could be eliminated from playoff contention. Hey thats enough motivation for me...

Series Preview from NY Daily News:(thought you might get a kick out of it - see the comment from a Mets fan upset that they didnt trade Sheffield for Lee)

Chip shot single by Castillo. Don't blow up over this, Cole

Cole's only career win against the Mets came in 2006, the first time he ever faced them. Hopefully he's due

Hamels gets out of the first. Offense goes to work against ex-Phillie Nelson Figueroa

Ideal scenario would be to get a nice lead, get five innings in, and then have it rain like hell. Of course, nothing ever comes that easy

Both teams strand a pair in the 1st

Rollins with a two out hit with runners in scoring position to make it 1-0. Make that a habit, J-Roll

Looked like the Phils were going to squander a two-on, no-out start to the inning, but Pete Happy comes through to make it 2-0

Game's official with the Phillies leading 2-0. Let it rain

Mets strand two in the 6th. Both teams are stranding a bunch tonight. It would be nice to get Hamels some more runs to work with

It feels wrong but I am really hoping that it gets called at this point so there's no save situation

The more runners we leave on, the more uneasy I feel about this one

Castillo gets the Mets on the board with a sac fly, but Park preserves the lead. Need insurance or heavier rain

Ruiz with a sac fly to make it 3-1

VICTORY! Little dicey in the ninth, but Madson gets a big DP and escapes. Hopefully the Nats can hang on in Florida

Uggla leads off the ninth with a homer for the Marlins, Ross follows with a single

Obscure stat of the night: With two more wins, the Phillies will be guaranteed to finish above .500 for the seventh straight season. That would be the second-longest streak in franchise history, behind the nine straight the 1975-83 teams ran off. The franchise also had six in a row from 1962-67

Ross Gload walks, Marlins have two on an none out in the ninth trailing 5-3

Bonifacio strikes out, one down for Florida, Chris Coghlan coming up

mplant

Coghlan grounds into a 5-3 double play, Marlins lose 5-3, lead back to 6

hahah somehow this thread also turned into the Fla Vs. Wash game.....Glad to see Florida lose to the Nats. We need that lead to be as big as possible when we play them!
