In sports at all levels every team has an opponent that seems to have it number or they seem to have there problems against for whatever reason. Well the Philadelphia Flyers have that problem right now against the Winnipeg Jets franchise at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Flyers just seem to not play well at home against them. The Flyers last victory against the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers at home was in 1996. The Flyers have lost nine out of their last 10 games at home against this franchise, 1-6-3 in that stretch. Well on Tuesday night the Flyers continued their losing ways at home against Winnipeg. The Jets beat the Flyers in a shootout 2-1. Earlier in the season the Flyers lost to the Jets 9-8 and 6-4.
The Jets Bryan Little was the only scorer in the shootout, giving Winnipeg a 2-1 win and also ending their three-game losing streak in the process.
The Flyers' Sean Courturier, Claude Giroux, and Jaromir Jagr were all stopped in the shoot out by the Jets goaltender Ondret Paveler. The Flyers in shootouts this season have had a problem with. They are 1-4 in them and their shooters are 5 for 15 this season. Head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers Peter Laviolette has no answers to what appears to be a problem for this team. It also was the Flyers third straight shootout. They lost to the Boston Bruins, then they beat the Florida Panthers, and then last night losing to the Winnipeg Jets.
The Flyers opened the scoring in the game in the first period on the power play goal from Brandan Schenn with 4:49 left in the first period. The Jets Chris Thorburn scored for the Jets and knotting the score at 1-1 in the second period. The Flyers out shot the Jets in the game, 28-24.
Both teams were playing there first game since coming back from the all star break and it totally showed. At times there was some very good flow to the game but it showed that both teams had not played in a weeks time. It just was not a good hockey game. The Flyers will take the point, they would of liked to have had two points. It was not the start the Flyers wanted to have to start the second half of the season.
