As the UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was pummelling Frank Mir on Saturday night at UFC 100 I had to think who is his next opponent would be. Well the names I'm hearing are Shane Carwin or the winner of the Randy Couture vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira fight in Portland,OR on August 29th. Carwin has a few fights in the UFC and has looked impressive but is he really ready for the main event of a card? I think not. He is not a PPV draw and has barely made it on the main part of any card he has been involved in. As for Couture and Nogueira, they are both at the twilight of their hall of fame careers and Couture has already lost to Lesnar and Nogueira recently lost to Mir who was destroyed at UFC 100. So that leaves me to believe they have to bring in a big name outside of the UFC. What bigger name then Fedor ' The Last Emperor' Emelianenko! Largely an unknown to the casual American MMA fan, Fedor has been the best fighter in the world for many years. With only one loss ( which was by cut early in his career) he has dominated everything put in front of him including knock outs of UFC vets Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski. I think the UFC is pidgeon holed into making a big splash for their weak heavyweight division. The UFC claims only the best fighters battle in the octagon well I think its time they proved it!
