Figured we could use a thread to discuss the good and (mostly) bad ones

Probably not a coincidence that I posted this just a few seconds after seeing the Geico cavemen "Let Me Be Myself" for the 9837462346782365823647852349759432759436th time

For those of us in NE Philly, they still show the old Charlie's Pizzeria commercial every now and then. I like how it's been their 50th anniversary since about 1998. The kids in that commercial probably all have kids of their own by now

Car dealerships are pretty bad!

My current leaders (they seem to change by whatever gets the most play on the sport that is in season) -

Worst: the UPS commercials with that long-haired guy. Something about him just really irritates me.

Best: the High Life commercials where the guy goes and takes the beer out of all the fancy places.

The only time I ever go to McDonalds is for the Filet O Fish during lent. I think they are good but you can tell they stay in your stomach for days. It doesnt really taste like fish at all. I've actually been lucky enough to have a double filet o fish before in upstate NY. It wouldnt have been that bad if you didnt realize you ate all the calories you should have for a few days.

I was wondering about that one. I would assume she is just a snitch, cause if she was the boss, I would have assumed she would have went over to the fatty and raised hell. But what I dont get, if she is a snitch, why is she so god damn upset? I mean, would any of you care if you were put in a similiar situation? NOT REALLY, I would say good for you. Ladies and gentlemen, the 57th President of the United States...

That one got me thinking, which is always dangerous. Obama is the 44th president. That couple would have to live a hell of a long time to make it through that many presidents. Unless any of them die in office, resign, etc, the earliest the 57th president could be sworn into office would be 2061, and that is if all the ones between now and then only serve one term

The Phillies-themed Septa ones are pretty terrible

"What do you want, a parade every year? What are we, Thanksgiving? I'm still celebrating '08! Every other year will do just fine" - We'll always have great memories of '08, but it's not exactly a good thing if you're still celebrating it two years later

"I miss that nut" - The dude in the commercial is talking about Aaron Rowand without actually mentioning his name. Rowand was a nice player for the Phils, but does anyone really miss him here? The Phillies have done just fine without him, and Rowand hasn't exactly set the world on fire with the Giants

The Just For Men commercials with the dads and daughters are downright disturbing. The one with the job interview is bad. The one where the two girls convince the dad (the tone of the commercial more or less implies he is a widower) to start dating again is creepy, especially the part where the dad takes a picture on his phone with his date and sends it to the girls

Just For Men should stick to Keith Hernandez and Walt Frazier for their commercials

I forgot about that one actually. That's a hell of a benefits package. The job interview one I was talking about was the one where the daughter tells her dad she knows he'll get the job and hands him the Just For Men. I mean seriously, if a place isn't going to hire me because I've got a couple gray hairs, I probably don't want to work there anyway

Or it could be the opposite. "OK, you just got done serving a ten-year prison sentence, you were fired from your last job for embezzlement, and were terminated for sexual harrassment at the job before that. But your hair is its natural color. You're hired!"

Commercials where husbands are portrayed as dumb and/or lazy are pretty commonplace, but one I absolutely despise is the 5-Hour Energy one, where the wife comes home carrying two grocery bags and whines about being burnt out by having "two jobs" (the second of which consists of everyday domestic chores and taking care of the kids). Meanwhile, her husband is sitting on the couch reading a magazine. It kind of implies that he's unemployed or just lazy. Turns out he's the one who suggested she take 5-Hour Energy and the wife's response was "My husband was right...for once" in a real condescending tone

Gee, lady. Maybe if you weren't such a bitch, your husband would help out a little more around the house (which didn't look the least bit messy in the first place)

mplant
12-10-2010, 03:52 PM
Just saw this one and was reminded of it. It's a remake of the Folgers commercial from the 80s where the guy comes home for Christmas. In the old one, he comes home and his younger sister greets him, he gives her a present, the parents awake from the smell of the coffee brewing, etc. Not so bad

In the current version, the guy comes home from a volunteer mission in Africa (I don't believe the original specified where he was coming from) and his sister greets him at the door. She makes him a pot of coffee, he gives her a present, the parents wake up. The sister takes the bow from her gift and puts it on the guy's chest, saying something like "You're my present this year"

In both commercials, the guy appears to be in his early 20s. In the original, the sister is much younger, maybe six or seven. In the newer one, the sister is a teenager. I know they mean well, but having the sister closer in age to the brother doesn't work. In fact, it's kinda creepy. The first time I saw it, I wondered if it was his girlfriend before catching on
