4th seed: Philadelphia Flyers
Why: The addition of Chris Pronger turned an emerging blueline into one of the NHL’s top units. New goaltender Ray Emery has a chance to be a big upgrade over Martin Biron, assuming the ex-Kontinental Leaguer keeps his head about him. The Flyers are now even tougher to play against and remain deep at forward, especially down the middle.

I like the potential they see in Emery. I think he'll keep his cool and play well.

How much of an upgrade do you think Emery is? I'm really happy with the Pronger trade too. I think we gave up alot but in return having a veteran on defense is huge.

Well if he plays like he did for Ottawa when he took them to the finals, its an upgrade. I think he plays the position better than Biron, however whenever a goalie comes to Philly they seem to underachieve so we'll see what happens.

Before Michael Vick, Emery was the big "second chance" signing in town. I think he will be ok, plus we should see a good goalie fight or two during the season. I'm a sucker for goalie fights
Beyond Emery and Brian Boucher, how are we looking at that position, depth-wise? Who is next in line? I know Johan Backlund came over from Sweden. I saw the other day we signed Nicola Riopel to an AHL contract (by the way, "Adirondack Phantoms" is going to take a LOT of getting used to). He was a fifth-round pick this year and was the MVP of the QMJHL last season, but I imagine he's a little ways away

The depth at goalie positions seems fine, just a few years away. I am not concerned. This year will also be interesting to see the progression of the young players. This team might be a lot better than people think.
