Philly Sports Pulse is sponsoring the 1st Annual Worst Beer Event. For the next two weeks a poll will be taken in this thread to vote for the top 16 worst American beers. The beers have to be available in the Philadelphia Area and can not be a seasonal brew or a malt liquor.
We will take the top 16 worst beers and rank them then place them in brackets. The contributing members of Philly Sports Pulse to reserve their spot will be given each of the 16 beers so they can give their opinion on who should win...or lose. So sign up and let your voice be heard. Pass the word around to your friends by facebook and twitter.
Below are the beers we could think of. If you could rank your top 10 worst beers it would help us in where to rank the beers for our brackets. Also, if you don't see a beer here that you believe should be on the list let us know

So, in order to do some more research(Drinking Heavily) The Hump and I, along with our other friend, found this beer that we had never heard before. Pennsylvania Style Ice. It looked HORRIBLE. It wasnt great at all, but it wasnt horrible. It was better than Natty Ice thats for sure, and at 12.75 for a 30 pack....WELL WORTH IT!

I've been in SC all week enjoying the waves without New Yorkers. I found Steel Reserve in the supermarket and I agree with another of the posters, it does make the idea drinking my own piss sound appealing.

We should really start narrowing down the "top" 16 beers for this event. Once we have our beers, then we can figure out where and when we want to have this event.

This seems to be a good spot for my first post.
Let me first say that I'm a little disappointed in some of the beers that did not make the cut, so to speak. As a PA-based show, I'd like to see Iron City, for example, over something like Budweiser. I think Budweiser is a little too well-known, as is Coors Light, to truly carry the mantle "Worst Beer."
That said, it would seem to be that Schaeffer's has a very favorable draw and is a good sleeper pick to take home the title. Everyone wants to say Natty Ice, PBR or the Beast as the worst beer, but we've all drank enough of that stuff to know what to expect. That first sip of Schaeffer's, though, might surprise you. I still remember buying a 30-pack of that stuff for about $6.99 in Delaware County back before the turn of the century. The next 24 hours are a blur.
At the end, I will predict a final 4 of PBR, Schlitz, Schaeffer's and Keystone... and at the end of the night, we'll all be making that "BITTER BEER FACE!" as Keystone takes home the title.

Yeah there are much worse beer out there than Bud and Coor's, but this is the 1st go round. People voted, and this is what came out of it. With that being said, this should be a great event!! I cant wait until Oct 9th!!!!!

Personally I think Bud is horrible. If I was at a party and all they had was Bud... i'd be drinking tap water. The Busch vs PBR match up should be very interesting. My favorites are Red Dog, Ice House, Genessee Cream Ale. Red Dog should be tough because most people can remember how bad it was. I've recently had Ice House with some friends ( of course it was on special ) at Miller's Ale House in North East Philly and no one wanted another one and even one person didnt finish theirs. Genessee is a sleeper because many people havent had it. Should be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

Well its finally getting down the end of our wait for the Worst Beer Event. Its this Friday October 9, 2009 at the House of Kirk in Turnersville,NJ. Everything is being cleaned. The landscaping crew is finishing off the grounds and the tents are being erected for this momentous occasion. The grill is being cleaned and the propane tanks filled for a night and early morning of gorging on the most choice meats ( sams club burgers and ball park hotdogs). The master of the dwelling, Mrs. Kirk is requesting each participant bring some alcoholic beverage to share with the other participants and remind everyone its taste testing not binge drinking of the Worst Beers....aka share the wealth and lets make sure we have something to enjoy after the event.
If your interested in attending and are not on the list shoot me and email or private message. ekirk@phillysportspulse.com

In this recap I'd like to first thank everyone that had a hand in putting this Worst Beer Event together. My wife and daughter did a great job setting putting together the food spread and keeping the beers flowing to our contestants. A thank you to The Philly and Mick joining us live to give a commentary on their radio show. Finally, a special thank you to all the contestants that put their bodies, especially the stomach and bowel area, and made the broadcast loud and a few comments probably will make the Hump never come back again.
My early favorites were Natural Ice and Red Dog in this competition and neither beer let me down. During the week prior to this event, the house that kirk built needed some cleaning and straightening up. Now personally, after a hard days work the most enjoyable thing I can think of is a cold beer. After trying to enjoy both Red Dog and Natty Ice in the most favorable situation...it still tasted absolutely horrible.
Some observations I've noted during this competition are that Schlitz really ran into a juggernaut in Red Dog and could have been a final four beer in any other bracket. Also, in the first round, speaking of Schliz, The Beast, Milwaukee's Best was ousted by Schilitz and both suffered from voting because they could have moved on if they ran up against say a Bud or Piels. Busch totally got screwed because it was a close vote with PBR and again could have been a winner in another year.
Throughout the end of the first round and each round after there was debate on which contestant was going to blow chunks. My vote was definately on the Philly Hump because he was slowing down and I believe he was changing color. I know personally at the end of the first round, due to the speed of having to drink the beers and being extremely cheap and drinking every last drop of my beers and fellow contestants beers.
A few quotes:
Gimp - ' Ice House is like someone crapping in my mouth' - classy
Mick - ' I'd like to thank the puerto ricans in the back' -
Mick - ' Again I would like to thank the puerto ricans ' - Mick seems to be a supporter fo the Puerto Rican Day Parade
The podcast was great radio when the Mick was grilling the Hump on his budding relationship with a sweet woman from NE Philly. LOL Tune in tonight @10pm to see if they are still dating after this weekends revelations!

Maybe a best beer contest but that could get expensive. We need a sponsor because Kirk has been living in the streets ever since.
We can also do a beer game Olympics :0

yeah I had to live off of that worst beer for weeks! Also, it has destroyed my taste buds. I actually buy Schaefer now as my beer to have at home. You cant beat 13.99 for a 30 pack

So....next beer ever???? when we doing this again. I think we at least dont let the "drinkers" know what beers they might be drinking. Keep EVERYTHING under wraps until the winner is crowned. I think knowing that it was Bud vs Coors light, for example would sway people into picking a beer. Whether on purpose or subconsciencely.
