View Full Version : Daily Baseball Trivia

At the urging of a couple Pulse veterans, I'm going to initiate a (hopefully) daily baseball trivia question. If it goes well, maybe I'll extend it to other sports as well, but let's start with baseball. A couple ground rules: 1) This is gonna be done on an honor system. We all know it's easy to google anything and come up with the answer, but try to honestly pull the answer from your memory banks. If nobody can come up with the correct answer, I'll provide hints to help the process along. 2) This is just for fun, but I will keep track of who answers what, and will periodically publish the most prolific answerers. 3) Have a good time!

The next post will contain the first question. Good Luck!

Name the top two all time Home Run Leaders in each league who played their entire careers with the same team. Please no partial answers. All posts must list all four players.

BeKirk got one right in each league. You didn't really think I was gonna tell you which ones though, didja? :)

I am going to go off Spartans guess with the AL as:

Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle (two yankees chasing history during their time)

I have three for the NL:

Mike Schmidt and either Ernie Banks or Jeff Bagwell... If I had a gun to my head i would take Banks because Bagwell was injured a lot during the later stages of his career.

We're up to three correct, and this time I'll list them. Schmidt and Banks are correct in the NL, and Mantle is #1 in the AL. Who can get AL #2 and put it all together?

Nice job timlyter

If you read both my posts, you can determine the fourth.

Next Question:

Prior to the Phillies' move to Veterans Stadium, who were the last two Phillies to drive in 100+ runs in a season, and what year did they accomplish this?

I want to say Dick Allen is one of them

You would be correct. Dick Allen is one, although at this time he was Richie Allen. Who is the other and what was the year?

I dont know, off the top of my head I am going to say 66? I have no idea who the other guy is though.

1966 is also correct. Hint for the other player - he eventually gained a very high-profile administrative position with MLB.

Even Allen's name was a source of controversy: he had been known since his youth as "Dick" to family and friends, but for reasons which are somewhat obscure at this late date, the media referred to him upon his arrival in Philadelphia as "Richie", possibly a conflation with the longtime Phillies star Richie Ashburn. After leaving the Phillies, he asked to be called "Dick", saying Richie was a little boy's name.

OK, mpulse got Dick Allen and Bill White in another thread. Time for a new question.

In 1963, the MVP's for the NL and AL, as well as the NFL and AFL, all wore #32. Who were they?
