Raw Commentary 7/27

- I hate the beat the clock matches. So boring! Tonight's Raw is going to be a cheap filler show.

- Mad props to the guy in the crowd that had the "All hail King Kobe" sign. That pissed Shaq off. Also liked Big Show's "2 free throws" reference. Anyone else notice the size difference of the Big Show's head compared to Shaq's?

- Mark Henry vs Carlito? See my first comment.

While I'm waiting for this boring match to end, I was surprised with a couple of the results of yesterday's PPV:
I'm surprised to see Orton and Kofi Kingston hold on to their titles, especially Orton. I would have guessed that Cena or HHH would have won, and set up a Summerslam PPV with HHH and Cena. As for Kingston, thats 2 PPV wins in a row... one a triple threat match and the other a six man threat.
I was also surprised to see Jeff Hardy win the title from CM Punk. From what I understand, Hardy wanted to take some time off. But with the recent injuries on Smackdown, and lack of main eventers, it looks like they gave him the title to appease him to stay.
Glad to see Mickey James win the title. In my mind, Maryse just doesn't have the charisma or attitude to be champion. I think they should start pushing Beth Phoenix again, or maybe Gail Kim.

- That finish in the 6 women tag match was unexpected. Usually someone breaks up a pin, everyone gets in the ring, then somehow just two are left in the ring. Instead, they broke up the pin. They should start doing this more often... surprise endings.

- Wow, Chris Masters makes a return. Definitely post-roids, as you can see a difference. He's still cut though. It will be interesting to see if Masters jobs the match, or actually gives MVP a run for his money.
- Why is MVP getting pushed? I think his gimmick is just a variation of Cena's. He's kinda lame. He wasn't bad as a heel, but now that he's a face, the gimmick isn't going anywhere.

- Perfect ending to the MVP / Masters match. I didn't think Masters would take a loss on his debut.

- On a side note, the quizno commercials make the sandwiches look so good. It's a shame they suck!

- I still can't believe the push Kofi Kingston is getting. He's entertaining though, so I think he deserves it. It's a shame the match wasn't a beat the clock match.

- Did DiBiase Jr. just "Tonya Harding'' HHH? Here's an excuse for HHH not to win the Beat the Clock match. His character always needs to find some outside interference to lose. He can never take a clean loss. That's what happens when you're poking the boss' daughter.

- I don't know if this was recent, but I think the intro music to Legacy is much better than the old "Priceless" song.

- I just tried that move that Cody Rhodes is doing to my significant other. The one where Cody had his head under HHH's knee and was trying to 'strain' it. Well, I dont know what he was trying to accomplish, because I just tried the move, and it doesn't hurt.

- Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, or John Cena for the #1 contender?!?!?! It would be nice if Cena didn't win since he looks to be the obvious favorite. I think having Swagger win would be very interesting, with much potential for storyline purposes.

- Another Chavo/Hornswaggle Match? Talk about filler matches!

- Chavo looked like a Madator at the end of the match with that mask on top of his head.

- Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger. This should be the match of the night.

- Wow! Didn't expect Bourne to win outright! I really hope Cena wins now, Mark Henry against Orton just makes my stomach turn.

- Now that Cena won, here's my prediction. During the summerslam match between Orton/Cena, Legacy will try to interfere in the match, but HHH will take care of both. Cena will win the title, and that will set up a match between Cena and HHH for Survivor Series (or the PPV before that).

- Boring tag match. Most exciting part was seeing that big strand of slobber come out of the big show's mouth.

- I know I said it before, but these guest GM's are killing the show. Shaq may have drawn some ratings, but I really don't think it will keep up. Raw is going to continue to suck unless another Monday Night War happens. Monday Night Football may also take away some of their thunder.

Another great commentary this week. I look forward to it now each monday. I think the WWE has to remove ECW and Smackdown because the story lines just arent working anymore for me. ROH has a show in a few weeks and i'll get back to seeing some good action.

Actually, I think Smackdown has the better show, even though it's taped. The Smackdown show actually has great wrestling matches, and I feel the storylines are written at a better level. I feel like the writers for Raw kind of half-ass the show. For instance, the Shaq skit where he was playing Scrabble with Santino, I believe that was an ESPN commercial. As far as ECW... it's suppose to be a program for the up and coming talent. They should wrestle more on the show, and cut the promos short. I really dont want to watch an hour program with only 2 wresting matches.

On a side note, I believe in mid August, ROH will be moving to Monday nights at 8:00 pm on HDNET. There will also be a replay at 11:00 PM the same night.

Another thing i didn't understand about the 7/27 raw. Why was Orton's match a dark match..... he's only the wwe champ coming off a ppv where he retained vs the 2 biggest faces on raw.

The genius bookers of Raw. I agree, since he's the champ, and beat both Cena and HHH, he should have been showcased. He did fight on Superstars against Primo, don't know if that had anything to do with it.
